People with trachs have the dryness problem you're talking about because they breathe through their neckholes instead of their noses. Doctors (actually, SLPs and PTs) fit these people with removable little plugs that moisturize the air as it enters the lungs. They could probably adapt the small device to fit inside your nostrils and give you some natural moisturization during the winter (and nobody could see the plugs either).
