My experience (cross border work, entertainment biz) is to be paid in advance, then you can 100% say, "I am not working while in (foreign country). I will not be paid for this trip. (Not saying because you've already been paid) and I'm going to give a demonstration of my work to potential clients in hopes of future business." < that's the wording given by my publisher's lawyers.

Ok, I’m sure it’s wrong, but using monkeys to pick fruit is kind of brilliant. Too bad it can’t be a beneficial partnership. It’s a pretty neat idea otherwise.

Not OP but - Being Canadian and having worked more years in USA than in Canada - the biggest difference is the Americans live in abject fear of poverty. (Rightfully so!) I've managed teams on both sides of the border. American workers keep their mouth shut and heads down or glad-hand and suck-up. Canadian workers just say what they think. The difference? Employment insurance and health care.

This is an amazing thread you've created. It's clearly brought out a lot of issues people have. I had no idea people felt challenged by poets. It's like you doing your thing is an affront to their identity.
Do you get this kind of negative daily? Like - get a job mate! - kind of comments?

Can you talk about the business? How does this idea pay you;
What does it cost, who are the customers? How much work is there?
But I'm also curious - has it ever gone horribly wrong? (Crazy client attacks an actor, or guy at thinks he's on a planned adventure when you haven't even started?)
