Not OP, but First Nations is used primairly in Canada, Native American in the US, both are fine to use.

Aboriginal is mostly used for native Australians, or in anthropology

"Indian" is in a gray area, most people use it, even though Christopher Colombus is a moron and thought Hispañola (Haiti/Dominican Republic) was India.

If there are no sufficient recycling programs or ways for the product to avoid disposal, then the consumer only has one choice: trash. The consumer has some power, but really it is up to industry to provide the product and infrastructure in order to dispose of less waste
