I'm not a lifeguard but this happened to me. There were two young boys swimming at a beach break about 500m from the flagged area. I was sitting on my board close to the oldest who was getting freaked out by the waves and was out of his depth. He called out for help from his younger brother and I paddled in, got him on my board and told the younger one to go into the shore. When I got the him to the shore his mother was standing there on the beach. I explained what had happened and told her to make sure they swam in the flagged area as it was my third good samaritan rescue on the same beach that year (dangerous beach). She started screaming at me and told me to fuck off and mind my own business.
