That it is sexy and fun and happens in seconds, like on TV and movies. Most of the time it involves spending hours and days staring at a screen, and is mind-numbingly boring as you look for needles in haystacks comprised entirely of other needles that look exactly like the needle you are looking for.

Number one worse habit is not applying patches, without a doubt. That eliminates so many issues and is easy to do. Probably the second worse habit for regular folk is passwords, as in weak ones as well as reuse. Of course working for a company that does 2FA I'd say use 2FA ;-) but really you should. Most banking and social media sites support it, you can get some form of 2FA for access to gmail etc. Third worse habit for regular folk is skipping regular backups.

Surprised? Not at all. Advertisers in the past just wanted your money, now they want your info because they can turn it into money one way or another. Advertising has been working on this issue of separating people from their money for ages and has lots of practice, so no, totally not surprised.
