what about breaking into the field from another technical, programming intensive field, such as a physicist?

that's great to hear, I would, how do I get the right kind of programming on my resume for that? (e.g. sql, ssis etc they all ask for) can doing some online courses be enough to get into an on-the-job training position? or would they be willing to train?
