I was also homeschooled, from 4th grade through high school, finished with a GED. My parents initially pulled me out of school for my safety, as my grade school was crazy, kids bringing knives to class and shit. I got beat up pretty badly when I was in second grade. It then turned into religious indoctrination for a long time. They used a main Mennonite curriculum, which was quite laughable. Fortunately, I started playing music, which got me out of the house for band practice and stuff, and ultimately saved my life.

I had to re teach myself things like biology and history, but other than that I feel like I received a great education. The way it ended up working for me was that I kinda taught myself most things, and my mom just gave me bookwork to do. We had a full set of Encyclopedia Brittanica which made digging deeper a LOT easier. I tried get into religion, because it was what my parents wanted, but it never really took. Other than the religious books, my parents never forced religion onto me, which was also awesome.

All in all, I've ended up turning I to a well rounded adult, so there's hope for you yet. Just get out of there once you can, and get somewhere with differing viewpoints. Also, on a cautionary note, stay away from drugs. I went fucknuts crazy and did everything, just trying to fit in or do new things. You'll have a bad time if you don't exercise self control in that department. I was in rehab by 22 :(

But man, don't lose hope, and don't burn your bridges, like everyone else here is saying. I've had to turn back to my parents so many times, even though I didn't want to. My dad is now one of my best friends, after he got the idea in his head that he couldn't control me anymore.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Stuart! Thanks for doing this! I had the pleasure of catching you in Cleveland, Ohio for your show in March, it was great. My question is, how was your trip in the states, vs your Canadian leg?
