That all of our history is national history, the history of Singapore as a nation. This has got to be the most pervasive issue and limitation. There are many layers of history below and beyond the nation which we should try to uncover.

That it is boring and useless.

Well it's not easy to analyse NE because while it is rightly boring for many students, it does lead to people internalising certain myths when they grow up. One of the most prevalent is how Singapore has a racial and religious faultline and we cannot debate about these matters publicly. So students end up calling themselves multiracial without truly understanding racial issues and the other ethnic groups besides the most superficial cultural facts.

If I go to a museum, I want to have 2 things: be transplanted into the past, and be able to start exploring. NMS doesn't do that for me.

That's really awful.
