This may seem off topic but I have to ask. I read a historical novel once set in post 1066 England, can't remember what it was, and there was a passage about how the french speaking nobility would change the names of wild game every year. As I understood it, it was sort of an elitist, insider joke. Since then I have not been able to find anything that confirms this and since I can't remember the novel, I can't go back and recheck it. Is there any truth to this?
