My daughter is 18 months old and began having tonic clonic seizures at 10 months. She also has what we think are focal seizures. She is not responding to meds yet. How commonly are they outgrown? What can I do as a parent to keep her safe? Can early onset seizures like hers cause developmental delays?

Our neurologists told us that the seizures themselves don’t cause any brain damage. Maybe I will ask them again to clarify. And no, she doesn’t have a rescue med - they’ve never lasted more than 3 minutes before.

Boy oh boy sounds like you’ve really been through it all! I’m sorry you’ve had a hard journey. We are in canada so I’m confident at least in saying that the medical system here is quite different - whether for better or worse who knows. Our new neurologist is an epilepsy specialist out of the children’s hospital here which is extremely well-funded. From what I can tell she’s very well respected. But we have only seen her once. I still have lots of questions and I will bring some of these concerns up next time for sure. I appreciate your taking the time to respond and share your experience.
