Fact is, we should take seriously the 99% of scientists who think the shit is going to hit the fan. Mocking your friend might make you feel better about the situation, but it doesn't make us all less fucked. Her point is simple: We need systemic changes (higher gas taxes, ability to sell back to power companies, investment in solar and wind.)

We're not going to get there changing our lightbulbs or feeling superior to people because of their consumption decisions.

The NRA does a really good job of talking about the "Slippery slope" of the second amendment.
