My dad contracted polio in 1951, in the US. He was paralyzed from the waist down, but as he was at a hospital that prescribed to the Sister Kenny method of rehabilitation, he eventually went on to regain full mobility.

My dad has often stated that polio was one of the most traumatic experiences of his life, and as such wouldn’t wish it upon his worst enemy. But yet, we still see resistance to the notion of vaccinating against this disease. What do you think it will take for developed nations like the US and Canada to fully embrace vaccination?

To make sure I’m understanding you correctly, you are suggesting that by vaccinating ~150 million unvaccinated Americans this would cause a higher incidence of polio than if this group were left unvaccinated?

I’m aware of the issue of mutant strains of polio vaccines having a higher chance of infecting an individual than a “wild strain” does, but these strains only infect unvaccinated children.

What am I missing?
