We had a surprising amount of control over the cost of our menu actually, as it all depends on our position in relation to the suppliers. That's why Corporate always asks to ring your local McDonald's for information when you're asking them about pricing.

Professor Sachs, one of your proposed solutions to global poverty is for developed nations to hand over billions of dollars more in aid to poor countries.

How do you expect aid to work and to be sustainable, when governments have political and personal motivations that are contradictory to sustainable development?

For example, developed nations aid levels and countries of donation are shaped by the political will to make bilateral aid a net benefit for their own economy, oftentimes at the expense of the poor in developing countries.

On the receiving end, how can billions of dollars of aid reach the poor without the interference of the many severely corrupted politicians of poor governments?
