Thanks for doing this AMA! As a photojournalist and as a Dallas resident for most of my life, I really appreciate what you all do at the Dallas Morning News. Both questions to the photographers:

-How did you deal with the initial shock that there was a shooter, and how long did it take you to switch from typical event coverage to spot news?

-And for a more technical question, what gear were you carrying during the march? I’d assume some Canon or Nikon body with the typical 70-200mm and a 24-105mm or 15-35mm, but I’m curious if you may have had a unique set of gear with you then.

Thanks for the answer, Smiley! I can definitely relate with you on the part about going away from an event to work some photos and then finding out about spot news at that same spot. When I was covering the Oklahoma State University homecoming parade in 2015, I had left the parade to work some of them and get prepared for the football game when I found out a car had been driven through the crowd. I ran straight over there and went right into photo work mode. Anyways, y'all keep up the great work at the DMN!

Edit: Also, I may have worded that opening part wrong on my first post. I'm not living in Dallas at the moment. I'm actually in Toledo, but I lived in Dallas regularly till about 2013.
