It not set in stone but generally speaking.... Women tend to look for men who subconsciously remind them of their fathers. Because your father set what your definition of "a man" is. So if your father was abusive, you'll tend to be attracted to abusive men because that is your definition of a man.

In your case your father was "unavailable" physically and emotionally. You may find yourself attracted to men who are similar. But you'd probably refer to them as "mysterious".

Again, none of this has to be true. But it's an observation that has been made through the ages.

It goes for men too who define their ideal mate as someone with the character traits of their mothers.

Its probably why children of successful parents tend to also Mary and have children with other successful people. They're attracted to stability/intelligence/lack of chaos.

Also why people who grow up in a tumultuous environment find themselves in tumultuous relationships later on.
