Hmm. I can't say much for Swedes, but I unintentionally ran into a couple Danish soldiers who saw me wearing a Boldspil jersey (I'm Danish-American). They ran up to me excited and we talked shop for a little bit. They were incredibly nice, VERY well trained and even more well informed. Unfortunately, they were not in the medical field so our conversation isn't really applicable here. I was in the west, which is controlled by the Italians and Spanish, some Germans and a few Norwegian units. I only met one Norwegian doctor and he was the most precise, succinct, robotic, and hilarious man I've ever met.

Not OP, but I was an Army Nurse/Medic deployed with a Forward Surgical Team to Afghanistan, and the difference in doctors is immense. Italian surgeons are well trained, yet know almost nothing about trauma or impact-related general surgery. They were eager and willing to learn, but something about trauma they just had a hard time wrapping their heads around. The French were extremely proficient, eager to learn, and more eager to be independent. The Afghani physicians were very cooperative, friendly, and eager to learn. Unfortunately, their financial predicament drove a nail into their motivation and oftentimes they would disregard potentially salvageable patients because their conservative injury threshold was much lower.

Thanks for doing this AMA! I'm an OIF and OEF vet who tried unsuccessfully for two years to get a service dog through the VA and they wouldn't budge. What options do I have?

Thanks for doing this ama!! I am currently a nursing student hoping to one day help manage patients with cannabis and psychedelic medications. I am a veteran and my ptsd has been well managed with cannabis and I want to help others. What can nurses do?
