Not OP but I do live in Christchurch, NZ which was devastated in 2010/11 by earthquakes, and I do know a bit about them.

In Canada you'll be fine. In modern first world earthquakes it's usually the older low rise buildings that collapse. All high rises built are built to a standard to survive very violent earthquakes. If an earthquake were to happen when I was working, I'd rather be in a modern high rise than any sort of low rise building, high rises may be damaged but many of them have stress points that are designed to break under pressure.

In case anyone else is wondering, this thing is so deadly, but so tiny. The effects of the sting sound terrifying!
