Conservative interests have also engaged in an ungodly massive disinformation campaign in order to continue to operate that way without getting voted out. Healthcare? "Socialism bad!" Gun Control? "Nothing we can do despite shootings not being anywhere close to as prevalent anywhere else" or "gun control is an attack on the 2nd ammendment that we only preach half of." Thus nothing ever changes.
