I think it's more about raising awareness through the voyage itself. I'm sure in terms of simply making an ambulance available you could just have someone use the money to purchase a vehicle within the country (Which is why they say don't donate goods when there are disasters in other countries, just send money instead. It's a lot more efficient.)

If you've got kids, the Science Center, Aquarium and Port Discovery (among many other places) are all great and nearby one another. Baltimore is a great destination for kids. There's also Camden Yards if the O's are in town.
