Young venture capitalist here--I can confirm that there's only one "original" idea out there for every few hundred meetings I take. And usually the original ideas are a bit ahead of the times (might take 5-10 years for consumers/markets to adopt the idea).

I hear a lot of new entrepreneurs always worried about their ideas and prototypes falling in the hands of other competitors and losing their "advantage." It's a very amateur way of thinking... sooner or later, there'll be plenty of competitors that will steal every idea of yours if you're onto something big. Facebook is the public company, not MySpace or Friendster. If you're already scared about a random redditor taking your idea and making millions, perhaps you're not ready to worry about a million other things that come with starting a company.
