I want to say thank you, Amy, for taking action here and re-evaluating what is taught in MLS programs and looking into how valuable the content being taught actually is to the students. As a recent graduate from an ALA-accredited school, I feel that my internships taught me much more than my program did. I think a focus on practical skills and less theory is much needed. And possibly some more IT/web focused options would be helpful!

Have any of you been faced with the task of justifying or defending the concept of open data to researchers? How would you approach this topic of discussion with those who are opposed to the concept and have fears about the implications of making their hard-earned data public?
