I just replied this to the other guy, but figured you might be interested in hearing too:
My husband's eyes never stabilized, but he got surgery anyway to qualify for a job. He had maybe 6 years of perfect vision, and then a gradual deterioration, to where now, 11ish years later, he figures he could probably use a slight prescription, but gets by fine and doesn't think it's worth it. He'll need glasses again at some point, but they'll be a vastly less strong prescription than they used to be, and will be an assist for detail work, rather than necessary to find a door like they used to be. He considers it 100% worthwhile.
