Imagine having 20 patients to care for... Simply walking walking from one room to the next without doing anything would take up 10 minutes.
Less than 3 minutes per hour to spend with each patient.
- Logging into the computer: 15s.
- Performing documentation: 1 minute.
- Washing hands: 30s.
- Gathering materials/writing orders: 30s.
- Explaining what you're going to do, double-checking, and doing it correctly: 45s??
Insane.

This is actually something scammers do very often.
It can be a way to weed out people who wouldn't commit fully, saving the scammers a lot of time and effort.
See Nigerian prince email scams-- why do the emails always have terrible spelling and grammar? Because if that bothers the victim, they'd likely realize at some point, "Hey, this is t right..."
Whereas a gullible mark would ignore all the red flags. Similarly, maybe the rugs were an example of something that weeds out people who aren't gullible enough to fall for the even crazier stuff they tell cult members

Tiny plastics and a multitude of toxic byproducts of burning the cigarette!
Cigarette butts are terrible for the environment, and nicotine leaching out from the butts after rain may be contributing partially to honeybee collapse and other wildlife crises.

Hi Dr. Lee, thanks for your time. I tend to have an optimistic outlook, but I feel lost when trying to help somebody who has a pessimistic outlook.
Do you have any advice on how to speak with and/or guide somebody that we care about?

$15/hour, but expected to work another 20-40 hours of free overtime because they're residents and should demonstrate dedication.
Essentially $7.50/hour, less than minimum-wage labor.
