Congrats on the amazing achievement! A few questions:

  1. What kind of data do you expect to still gather from Voyager?
  2. How long do you expect you'll be able to communicate with it?
  3. Granted it'll be a while before it gets close to anything, but what else in the universe lies along it's current trajectory and how far away is it?

Hi John! I've been an avid listener of Lexicon Valley since you first took it over. You've mentioned a couple of 'pet' linguistic ideas on the podcast, namely a potential Celtic substrate to English and a potential Phoenician substrate to Proto-Germanic. My sense is that you portrayed both of these as intriguing ideas with some evidence, but that the field is far from settled on these points and there are many alternative hypotheses out there. (Sorry if I've mischaracterized your positions here!)

So my question is: what resources are out there that are accessible to non-linguists where we can read more about either of these ideas?

Also - how do you find time to watch and listen to so much historical media? I'm constantly amazed by your near categorical knowledge of early to mid 20th century music and video recordings!
