To my knowledge doctors get pretty screwed by the system too. (What I've heard, not a doctor) after the massive student loans, malpractice insurance, and ridiculous hours their lives aren't as cushy as the media can make it out to be for a long time.
My opinion is that it's not the patients or the doctors that caused the problem originally. Insurance companies and big pharma are the villains here. I think hospitals tend to be more like bystanders. They didn't really cause the situation but didn't do anything to stop it and profit off of people getting f***ed.
I'm sure that you're right and there are some hospitals that lose money. Although it's hard for me to believe that's common after seeing so many people have to beg for help or go bankrupt because of medical debt.
