I thought Shannon's antipodes of the mind was a very legit attempt at formalizing a vocabulary for the phenomenological experience of ayahuasca.

There is plenty of research in this area, mostly by Brazilians. Labate, Vroes, Couto, Rehen, and Mercante come to mind.
