It seems like every few months the FBI comes out with a new terror case where they convinced some people to join a terrorist organization and even provided them with fake weapons, fake bombs, etc. Is this a good way to root out terrorists before they become real terrorists or is it just the system creating headlines to support its self?

This article is an example of what im asking. Would these three pose a true threat without the "help" of the FBI?

Another way to look at it is, control. With this information they can control anyone.

Let's say you discover a shady government-private business deal. Maybe you audit a construction project and find out there's a 20% markup on material. Or maybe you find out about a congressional members brother in law who is getting no bid contracts for a new highway or federal building. Basic stuff but illegal and damaging to anyone in power.

Being a good American you reach out to Congress or a local FBI branch to let them know of the illegal deal. They report up the chain to start the investigation.

Someone in government, who set the deal up in the first place, finds out about your complaint. To keep their deal in place and blackmail you. But they don't know you and you aren't a criminal. To get evidence they pull your web history, text history, phone history, bank info, credit rating, employment history, etc.

Maybe they edit your web history to include some child porn or an Ashley Madison account or a Grindr account or just porn. Whatever it takes to ruin your life if you don't shut up.

This hasn't happened but what is stopping them? We are now becoming aware of the illegal dealings within local police departments. Would the federal government be any different? The data gathering is unconstitutional so it's already an illegal program.

Just food for thought for anyone who thinks "I have nothing to hide and I'm not a public figure."

Bees are a commodity like anything else, I remember a few years back about groups of people stealing avocados, so if it has value it'll be stolen. Plus how do you prove those bees are stolen? Bees are necessary for certain crops to grow and their numbers are shrinking so their value goes up. Which leads to theft.

Source: none, just random stuff I read over the years.

I thought the same thing. Will they work together or coordinate in any way with the Washington Post? Are they using the same metrics?
