I remember an anecdote about John Von Neumann that a Professor of Byzantine History had said he had greater expertise on Byzantine History than he had. I wonder how and why he was so interested in history? And were there any other random areas where he was far more knowledgeable than you would expect?

One argument I have been having a lot with some friends of mine who are adamantly antilockdown is about the accuracy of modelling. How accurate is pandemic modelling in general? Has the media failed to communicate the uncertainty associated with modelling? And how best should we communicate such complex ideas that also demand a public response and changes to our daily lives?
