What is your policy if someone you are filming becomes too drunk?

I remember hearing from a friend that one of his astronomy professors suggested that looking for evidence of life on mars is kinda of secondary to getting some cool data on it's geology. What are your positions on this issue; do you think looking for evidence of life on mars is kind of based on a pipe dream?
