I worked at an independent detail shop for a few years and would recommend that you shop around reputable shops in addition to your local dealer. Our local Porsche dealer would often contract our guys to come help them when they got really busy and we found that the dealer was more accustomed to getting reasonably clean cars while our guys were used to getting disasters and then having to make them like new again. This varies from dealer to dealer of course, but it's something to keep in mind depending on the condition of your car today.

What are the typical explanations you hear about why someone doesn't have an ID? I understand some city dwellers might go their whole lives without needing a driver's license, but I can't imagine not having an ID, period, just for routine purchases like alcohol or cold medicine.
