Hi!

I'm a punk rocker, definitely a non-conformist and I don't feel like I'm 'missing out' or am 'ostracized'. I feel as if I am just me and those who choose not to involve me do not matter to me in the grand scheme.

With that being said, a lot of my friends and peers feel that they are missing out or ostracized, or that the same advantages given to a 'normie' are not and would never be bestowed upon them.

Do you have any advice for those people? I maintain the attitude of "don't let the bastards grind you down" but some people don't feel the same.

Thanks!

Nah, I do me.

I'm a punk, sure, but I like lots of not punk things. Labels are easy because it does help you feel like a bigger part of something, which everyone wants. Conformity to social norms is what OP is speaking to.

I agree.

I wonder how some of these people feel inside. Like is there a deep dichotomy or schism between the self that wants to fit in and the self that exists as is? Should someone conform to a certain standard for comfort?

Hi.

I found some very racist stuff in your comment history. Including flat out using the n-word

Are you proud of who you are? Do you take pride in the belittling of others?

OP is opining about social conformity, of which punk is against the idea of. The term 'weird' being used to describe those who do not conform to the regular social standard. Punk in its forms does not fit that. I know many punks who don't conform to much of anything, or rather do not adhere to a single idea of what punk should be- the idea being that although it is a broad term, that many things that are or aren't punk are adopted by it. It is literally a mix and mash of various ideas and feelings, generally opposed to what the social standard is.

There is little irony, other than the fact you are pretending to know what you're talking about by having an inflammatory opinion.
