Yoga in the Eastern sense is a centuries old practice designed to give the user 'moksha' or liberation from senses in order to unite oneself with Brahman (the sense of everything-ness) or in Kundalini yoga the user is said to unite with the God Shiva. Although it includes physical posing, the true practice of yoga involves a complicated process of the physical (posing, breathing..etc) and the spiritual (morality, personality, controlling senses, mediating on the Divine, and ultimately connecting with the Divine). This spiritual meaning is completely lost upon those who strap on their yoga pants and head to a Western yoga class IMO.

Does the Western perception of Yoga bother you? I was an Eastern religion studies minor at school and my professor always preached about the misconception. Edit - spelling
