Being able to jog (not run) a 5k would be a good idea before taking a swing at a Spartan Sprint, but if your heart is 100% in it, there is no reason you can't claw your way through.

I hobbled through one with two blown out ankles, while a buddy was carrying an 80# rucksack. It took the better part of 3 hours, but it can certainly be done by almost all. If you want it bad enough.

Two questions for you.

  • When plotting out events like the DR/TDR, what sort of benchmarks for feasibility do you have in your head? It is relatively easy to design a course that has a 100% or 0% finish rate, but finding the sweet spot where "enough" people cross the line alive strikes me as a much larger challenge.

  • You aren't really letting Sedlak design all of the MidWest courses are you? Do I really have to endure another 1/2 mile up-hill low crawl in Chicago next week? :)

I have a close friend who just suffered a below the knee amputation. He is (and will remain) an incredibly active off-road trail runner/racer. What are his best options for a prosthetic that will stand up to the abuses of running up and down mountains, crawling around in sandy terrain, and carrying heavy objects over long distances?
