Because most people work pointless jobs because it's a paycheck. If we cut out all the pointless jobs now (which are inevitable going to be gone with technology soon any way) and allowed people to work in areas they cared about, society benefits. It may mean more people transitioning to health care, child care, education, things people are passionate about but can't afford to go back to school to do, can't take time off work to practice, etc.
So society is essentially subsidizing training in a field of your choice. Could it be abused? Yes. Would it be worse than what we have now, which is people working pointless, passionless jobs for a paycheck that barely lets them live? Probably not.

I feel you, dude. And that's not to be condescending. I often see some sort of course deviation come as a result of some substantial event or under-education.
Power to you for changing your ways. Remember what Danny says at the end of American History X. Hate is baggage.

What was your upbringing like? I feel as though most people who follow a hateful cause and rationalize its merits were either under educated or suffer some sort of trauma and molds their minds a certain way from a young age. Would you say that was the case with you?
