ITT: lots of people who don't live in Nigeria trying to convince a guy who lives in Nigeria that his country is completely backwards and unlivable.

As a Cornell alum who drinks and eats out probably more than he should, I can confirm that an inordinate number of hospitality orgs and restaurants/bars in the Philadelphia area have someone from Big Red on staff.

My parents survived the Khmer Rouge too - I just wanted to say that we support what you're doing and are glad that you were able to do something positive.

Also, I'm a little late, but Soursdey Chhnam Thmey!

It's 6 AM in Philadelphia and I can't sleep. Then I see this on the front page.

My dad fought in the civil war against the Khmer Rouge from about 1968 to 1974. He was selected for officer's training and shipped to the US. His training finished the day before the country fell, and he became a refugee.

My mom was in Phnom Penh when they took over. Her family was relatively lucky, because she only lost one brother and sister, and still has 4 sisters and a brother left. They managed to escape in April of 1979 when the Vietnamese invaded.

My parents met in Philadelphia, and neither of them would have ended up there if such terrible things didn't happen.

It's strange what coincidences come around in our lives. I'm going to Srok Khmer myself for the first time in December. Best of luck.
