How do you handle international data plans for your phone? Also what do you do while your walking as in do you listen to music or podcasts or anything like that

Context: for instance I think you spend most of your time walking and camping. Normally when I travel I use free WiFi at my hotels or restaurants and use those times to download offline maps and other things that I might need during the week/days
