Funny you should say that. In Norway, inmates can take a bachelor degree whilst incarcerated. I think this is a good thing, because those who do this can actually live a good life afterwards, instead of going back to petty crime.

Most people in Norway seems to disagree with me though, at least at parties(drinking, not political) I go to. They seem to think it's "stupid" to throw money at them like that, but if they don't go back and don't steal more shit, then it's worth it. Going to the University in Norway is free for everyone anyway, as it's covered by taxes. If they get an honest job, they will pay taxes instead of stealing other peoples things.

So they're not sentenced to an education, like in your example, but they have a choice, and if they make that sane choice I would think it's a sign of someone wanting to become a law abiding citizen.
