Texan here, checking in. Both of my parents are lifelong Republican voters, but they are libertarian leaning (i.e. fiscal conservatives). Many of my neighbors (and my grandparents) lean more toward social conservatism. If you split the Tea Party off of the GOP, you're effectively splitting the social conservatives from the fiscal conservatives. My parents would vote for the GOP and my grandparents would vote for the Tea Party.

In that Republican civil war, all the Democrats have to do is mobilize a small part of the huge but currently not-voting latino population, and they have taken Texas during a Presidential election. (Plus I have no doubt that currently disillusioned Democrats in the state would see the opportunity and come to the polls as well.)

15 years?! I had no idea transplants lasted that long. Or is that just the first? Will future transplants also last as long, or does the immune system "catch on" so to speak and reject sooner?
