What about illegally?

Late to the party but I hope you're still answering questions.

What do you guys do in terms of documentation? How do you handle corporate or development requests? And finally it seems like you guys really encourage in-house development of sysops tools. Any recommendations on how to approach management with suggestions for working on our own? I feel like my company could benefit from developing some tools a bit more complex than the myriad of scripts we already have, but I don't want them to be seen as a distraction or waste or effort / time.
