People have different sounds that trigger a response. Why those sounds? Is it something we're born with, or is it a response to sounds that we hear?

ASMR and misophonia are sometimes colloquially described as opposite conditions. It's useful for explaining misophonia to people, but I'm not sure whether it bears out. Is there actually any scientific connection?

I think it's interesting that it's limited to people talking about themselves. Do you feel extreme annoyance / anger / rage / nausea when anyone smacks their lips, talking about anything?

Could I very gently ask whether you might be reliving the memory of what happened? The sounds might be subconsciously reminding you of distressing emotions. I'm not an expert, but if this is the case, I would gently encourage you to speak to your doctor or a mental health professional. Recovery is possible.
