What novels would you recommend? What are your favs?

Sam - What’s it like being out as a journalist? Have you ever felt pressured to cover a certain beat, or to stick to certain topics? Were you always out, or did you have a coming out as a journalist, and what was that like?

You are an inspiration, man. Really. You have several times brightened my week over the years, and your work has been a light in dark times. I have many, many times gone back to your “can’t let it go” reaction to Pulse - what you said about safe spaces has stuck with me ever since. I felt so seen and so heard. Thanks for being strong and positive rep and a voice for the gay community!!

Thank you for your answer Sam! I appreciate your mindset so much. As a gay high school English teacher (now admin), I’ve gone through such a similar process; embodying when appropriate for students without being “on-demand” and when it makes sense for me.

And that “Coming Out” episode of IBAM is powerful AF. It is something I have shared with students, and during an LGBTQ+ Pride Club meeting with teens. Your show and your voice is opening space for young gay kids, whether you know it or not, and that’s a pretty amazing legacy, Sam!

Agree with you on Mara - she’s such a fantastic presence and keeps it so, so real. If I had a fairy godmother, I’d want her to be Mara Liasson.
