This is correct for bear builders. At BQ (Bearquarters), it depends on the position you are holding. I had 1 phone screen, 5 in person interviews, and a pysch eval over the course of 3 months before getting an offer.

Which store do you work at? Do you have the newer sound station that lets you put in sound clips like Justin Beiber and Victoria Justice? Are you at a "Store of the Future" with the new surface tables for the nameme, loveme, fluffme? What do you think about Maxine stepping down? Who is your favorite person from BQ?

Staying profitable is a focus of BAB. This article is a bit old but it looks like they are closing some stores along with upgrading other stores to the new design. http://risnews.edgl.com/retail-news/Build-A-Bear-to-Close-60-Stores-with-Sales-Down-12-82890 The idea being to focus on improving in markets they are good and closing others where they aren't as strong.

The challenges I think Build-A-Bear has is building out their appeal to boys and increasing interest in older children (10 -16yr olds). The new stores are starting to incorporate some new technology to build upon the bear building experience which should hopefully help.

Its important to note that BAB is world wide with stores in Canada and the UK that are owned by the corporation as well as franchises in many countries including new markets like Brazil and Mexico.
