In biology you have active transport. With regards to water purification, reverse osmosis is the process of forcing water through a membrane against the osmotic gradient. For example, you'd use a pump to force salt water through a semi-permeable membrane, against the osmotic pressure, leaving the salt (and in theory, other impurities) behind, and pure H2O on the other side.

He had this ability to see through the bullshit that is show business and the media and call people out on it, but he would do it in a way where the guest couldn't help but laugh at themselves. Combined with a cutting wit it was a recipe for great cult television. It was very real, very raw. Probably the most real show on television at the time.
