A panorama doesn't have to be on a curved canvas, it just has to show a wide view. Once you get wide enough linear perspective breaks down, so even a small panorama can be a lot more complicated than a non-panoramic painting of the same size.

Edit: Actually now I see where OP said it. The picture in the photo looks flat, but has an outward fisheye thing going on. Could be a canvas painted for panoramic display being temporarily hung in a flat frame but I don't know enough about curved perspective to know whether that's the case.
