Why should I care about this?

Wow! I had no idea of the sea star's aptitude for showing the water quality of the ocean. This does seem like a larger problem involving Pacific Water quality.

This was a completely serious question, I'm sorry you thought of it as obnoxious...I probably could have phrased it in a more respectful way. However, the idea behind my question was sound, I think; starfish on the west coast of the United States seems like a relatively low-priority problem, in the grander scope of things.
