About 4 years ago in my microbiology class i asked why not manipulate virus's to kill cancer cells? Is that idea still in the air?

Thank you for the response! Would the idea of the herpes virus fit into the category of NanoTechnology? I read a few years ago that someone in Europe patented the idea of using viruses to kill cancer cells in a 'tumor' form. The big problem before was that after the cancer cells were eliminated but the virus was still in the body. To fix that he/she gave the virus a lifespan. Is this true?

Do you think that FDA regulations on methods other than chemo would be put on hold? Because some companies (chemo) would lose a lot of funding due to exposing an actual cure.
