My grandmother learned to fly in the early 1930s. As a teenager. I have no idea how they afforded that.

At that time it wasn't "man's work". It was still so exotic.

WWII came around and that changed. Her husband then was also a pilot but so experienced they made him an instructor, possibly the most dangerous job in the army air force.

They made my grandmother stay home. She was indignant. They didn't even have kids yet. My grandfather says she was always the pilot that taught him.

They both thought he should at least go to the front and she should train but...no.

Pay the taxes, sell the car. The dealership that delivers the car to you would probably make that deal on the spot ( favorably to themselves, of course but it's still a win.)

How often will these have to be updated as the child grows? How much do they cost? Is it covered by insurance? I wonder, if the boy doesn't grow up to be fortunately wealthy, will he lose access to these?
