Russian here. People on reddit sit around fire and tell scary stories about socialism and always compare to the USSR. Your whole socialism concept is outdated propaganda from cold war times.
USSR didn't appeal to socialism, it appealed to communism.
What younger people want from "socialism" now, is not total government control of economics, but instead healthcare, education and other social aspects of life taken care of on a more serious level by the governemnt. Which already works perfectly in many first world countries. Scaring people with spooky socialism holds you back so that in the end half of reddit is bitching about healthcare/education prices and whatnot.
