Self-employed here as a writer. You're allowed tax deductions for stuff related to the business and that can add up, but the problem is with people who are going into self-employment for the first time.

You still have to pay taxes on what you earn and a lot of people used to the employer taking care of taxes treat all of the money coming in as though it's cash in hand rather than saving back Uncle Sam's cut. There's also an additional tax the employer pays on employees and if you're self-employed you get hit with that which adds to the bill.

My first year when I was building my platform and positioning myself to quit the day job I saved 30% of everything that came in so there'd be no surprises at tax time. Depending on how big your business is that could be a hefty bill that you're not prepared for.

Hi Hannah! I'm just getting started on this path myself (first book/sales yesterday). I see you do monster stuff and I have ideas rattling around for nonhuman/horror themed stories but thought those were harder to sell on Amazon after the crackdown a few months back took out bigfoot and the like as collateral damage.

Is that not the case? What would you say the fuzzy gray line is between banned monster erotica and stuff that passes muster?

Thanks for doing this! I'd like to make this a full time thing as well and it's an inspiration seeing others who are making it.

Thanks! It's good to hear that. I read an article about a bigfoot writer who went from making thousands a month to nothing because some of the monster erotica was getting incorrectly lumped in with and banned alongside bestiality stuff. It was an older article, so maybe they've since fine tuned the filters.

Either way it's good to know your stuff is out there and doing well. I'll have to give it a try!

Thought of another one if you're still around. Where do you get stock images for your covers? Know of any good free resources?

I also noticed you have women on a lot of your covers. Since erotica has a big female audience most others go for hunky men. Do you notice a difference in sales based on what gender goes on the cover, or do you think female fans are projecting themselves onto the cover while male fans drool over it?
