A friend of my parents from back in the day had 'learned' this way. He was at an all boys school in England. Like you said, he had a fair phobia and just never learned to swim. He was a pretty solid guy too, like 6'2" and maybe 275 lbs.

My parents taught him how to swim in our swimming pool. Took a lot of patience, but I still remember looking out the window to see him swimming laps solo.

Details are murky, but I'll try my best here. This was probably in the early 1970s. Definitely Canada.

I recall a story making it to the news about a private pilot creating some controversy. The issue was that he only spoke French and tried entering ATC for a larger airport. Chaos ensued.

My dad was a former pilot (not commercial) and had involvement with commercial pilots on a professional level. This story really pissed him off.

Credit card companies do this already, so it's not inconceivable.

Of course, there's the question of the knock-on effects of this sort of change. I know that whenever our CC gets force-updated (something something fraudulent activity with merchants you've done business with), we get to do this song and dance update with every company which uses said CC on a regular basis.

I'm trying to imagine the impact of a regular SSN change.
